The eighth edition of this event took place earlier in the year with nearly 70 boats representing 20 countries at the starting line. There is a certain glamour factor to this event. People will flock to it to purchase luxury watches. Because sailing is still an amateur sport, the association with it is very glamorous. It's not just sailors who are buying watches. Most people wouldn't mind spending a fortune on equipment for their boat, but they'd be happy to wear a plain-looking plastic watch. The people who visit St Barth aren't there to sail, but for the good food, the beautiful beaches, and the great lifestyle. It is truly a special part of the Caribbean.
Francois Tolede, Luc Poupon and Luc Poupon started the regatta eight years ago. Today the event hosts some of the most beautiful boats and the greatest sailors in the world - the best. Today, there are 67. Francois and Luc aren't keen to see the island grow beyond 80 boats and 1,500 sailors. These are the limits of the infrastructure.

What kind of sailing do your prefer?
Normally, we race in a series called the TP52 Super Series. This is the most competitive keelboat racing in the world. TP stands to Trans Pac. It refers to a boat that was designed for the Trans Pacific Race from San Francisco to Hawaii. 52 refers the boat's length in feet. There are six events this year: Key West, Miami Scarlino Sardinia Majorca, Majorca, Majorca, Majorca, Majorca,Richard Mille Replica Watches and Minorca. I cannot race in all six of them, but we will be racing in four. Although Les Voiles de St Barth falls outside of the Super Series, Richard asked me to fly the flag to strengthen the connection between the event's brand and it.
